Here is one chapter for calculating the spreading thermal resistance.
Typically such resistance is obtained from the analytical solution of 3-D heat conduction problem.

If you want to fully understand this paper, I suggest you to solve some of the problem by yourself analytically,e.g., using standard separation variable method.
